In episode 16, I’m going to show you 4 content marketing tips that will change the way you create and promote content. Apparently, I’ve got 15 seconds to get your attention.
And I’ve just wasted two-thirds.
If you’re still with me, let’s go.
Just because you have a blog or YouTube channel, it doesn’t mean you’re a content marketer.
According to Content Marketing Institute, content marketing is used to drive profitable customer action through relevant and valuable content that attracts, acquires and engages a clearly defined target audience.
Here are 4 actionable tips you can use today to make your content stand out.
1.You need to hook your readers within 15 seconds.
Time Magazine reports that the average reader spends 15 seconds reading content before they decide to stay or leave. No matter how great your content is, you need to hook your readers, viewers and listeners fast.
Hook your readers with a story they can relate to. Pinch a pain point. Do something that will catch their attention.
A boring introduction might kill the stellar content below it.
2. Identify influencers who will promote your content before you create it.
After you create your content, you need to promote it right?
Smart content marketers identify key influencers who will promote their content before they create it.
An efficient way to do this is to search a keyword phrase in BuzzSumo. Take a look at the popularity of social shares and create an article around already proven successful topics.
Then you can click on “view sharers” and make a Twitter list of influencers who have already shared something similar to what you’re about to create.
3. Repurpose your content with a twist.
You can’t just create a YouTube video and then play it back on Periscope.
People go to YouTube to learn or to be entertained while people on Periscope love the thrill of live video. You have to repurpose it based on the context of the distribution channel.
When repurposing your content, think about why people visit that digital channel. Then modify your content to match the intent of that audience.
4. Use content upgrades.
It’s great to have people come to your site, but how do you get them to come back without paying for retargeting ads?
You get them to subscribe to your newsletter. The perfect way to do this is to use a content upgrade.
Content upgrades are post specific offers that enhance the experience for the user. They work well because they are hyper-targeted offers that they can use to progress further through a problem.
If you’re reading a post on lead generation, would you opt in for a freebie about Twitter engagement or one that’s related to lead generation?
By adding people to your email list, you can send emails on future content and sales pitches.
Don’t just create content. Do it smart and efficiently.
I hope you enjoyed today’s episode and got value where you can add just one smart tip to your content marketing. More importantly, I hope you’re able to apply these and get great results.
